Lanasia Pleasants

I am interested in pursuing a career as a cultural officer in public relations, social media, or global communication, where I can combine my creativity with cultural awareness to develop impactful and meaningful content. I am driven by growth, curiosity, and the opportunity to use communication as a tool to connect people and ideas across cultures.

I am a young public relations professional where I earned a double major degree in International Studies with a concentration in Asia and Communication with a concentration in Public Relations at Western Carolina University. I enjoy working in content creation, storytelling, and global relations to engage diverse audiences and highlight a wide range of cultural perspectives.

As a proud recipient of the David L. Boren Award, I had the opportunity to study abroad in South Korea at Sogang University in Spring 2024, where I focused on learning the Korean language and immersing myself in Korean culture. This experience strengthened my cross-cultural communication skills and broadened my global perspective, which continues to influence the way I approach content creation, storytelling, and audience engagement.

The David L. Boren Award is a nationally competitive scholarship that supports students in studying abroad in regions critical to U.S. interests, with an emphasis on language learning and cultural immersion. The program fosters global understanding and prepares students to contribute to international engagement and public service.

I have also been selected as a participant in the SECU Public Fellows Internship Program, which I will be completing this summer with Kinston Teens in Kinston, NC. As an intern, I will contribute to content creation, social media strategy, and storytelling content by capturing and producing visual media, developing digital communications, and conducting interviews to highlight youth programs and community impact. I will also lead a capstone communications project that showcases the organization’s work, allowing me to apply my skills in public relations, content creation, and strategic storytelling in a real-world setting.
